Our Man in the Field is the sonic alter ego of British songwriter Alex Ellis—a project hitting its creative stride with a sound that’s both expansive and intimate. Ellis’s vivid storytelling and unmistakable tenor have drawn comparisons to Ray LaMontagne, Damien Rice, and Wilco, yet his voice and vision are entirely his own. Blending Americana, indie-folk, and cinematic soul, he crafts songs that feel like short films—emotional, unvarnished, and built to last.
2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for the band. Following acclaimed shows at SXSW in Austin and the Kilkenny Roots Festival, they delivered standout performances at both Glastonbury—packing the Acoustic Stage with a capacity crowd—and London’s Hyde Park, where they supported Neil Young to tens of thousands of fans. Both shows earned glowing praise for the band’s ability to hold large audiences rapt with their emotive, finely crafted songs.
This momentum builds toward the release; Silverado, their eagerly anticipated third album, recorded at Mark Knopfler’s world-renowned British Grove Studios and produced by Dire Straits’ Guy Fletcher. The record boasts a remarkable roster of collaborators, including legendary slide guitarist Sonny Landreth, bassist Nick Pini, Matt Owens (Noah and the Whale), Ethan Johns, guitarist Robbie McIntosh, and percussionist Will Fry (Jungle). The result is a sound both richly textured and deeply human—rooted in Americana but unafraid to explore new sonic territory.
This year ahead sees the band embark on full UK and Ireland headline tour this October and November, culminating in a career-highlight show at London’s iconic;100 Club (Ed: Umm this should read Beer No Evil Worthing shouldn't it? Tee Hee - Gareth and Gemma).
It’s part of an already packed live schedule that has seen them perform over 150 shows in the past year—opening for Chuck Prophet on sold-out tours, winning over new audiences at major festivals, and earning the respect of industry peers and musical heroes alike.
BBC Radio has been a consistent supporter, with Mark Radcliffe and BBC 6 Music championing multiple tracks, and BBC Radio 2 playlisting “L'Étranger,” nominated for Song of the Year at the UK Americana Awards—their second nomination to date. Veteran music journalist Bill Bentley praised their last record as “nothing short of momentous—albums like this come along once every decade.”
With Silverado, a growing international profile, and a reputation as one of the most compelling live acts in the modern Americana scene, Our Man in the Field are poised to make 2025 their defining year.
